Re: VMware Player- USB

Hi,

I've been a way on leave for a couple of weeks so am now trying to progress this. I seem to be able to get a USB memory stick to be recognised eventually. But my USB debug tool will not be recognised. The drivers (for the guest OS) are intact and are reported as working (in Device Manager). The drivers are listed by the development tool company as being Windows 8 64 bit compatible. But my debug software will not recognise the USB debug pod. I am a little concerned that this may be something to do with the USB 3 ports I have on my Dell Vostro laptop. The Player settings do not show a USB 3 mode only 1.1 and 2.0. I have read that there may be driver issues with USB 3. Can anyone confirm this.

I am getting a little confused and not a little disheartened at not being able to use my new laptop with my old tools. I did check that everything worked with a Windows 7 64 bit machine before hand but this had USB2 ports. Unfortunately my laptop only has USB 3. I have installed a different version of my development tools which runs under Windows 8 64 bit and my USB debug pod appears to be recognised with this. But the tools have a very large learning curve which I would rather not have to climb so I would prefer to investigate the VM route until all options are exhausted.

I am also not sure which direction I need to tackle this from....Windows 8 (virtualisation), VMware, or the development tools company (P&E Micro). All have forums (and I have posted on them all!

Regards

Steve
